If you’re targeting superficial skin issues, 5-10 minute sessions are usually sufficient. However, to target muscles, joints, and ligaments, you’ll need longer sessions of 10-20 minutes to penetrate deep into the tissues. In addition, the further you sit from the red light device, the weaker the light intensity.

Overall, follow the guidelines provided by your device and consult your healthcare provider to determine the optimal treatment length for your needs.

How Often Should You Do Red Light Therapy?

Again, the frequency of red light therapy sessions depends on your health goals.

Overall, the research supports using RLT anywhere from 2 to 14 times per week. Some prefer using their device once or twice daily, while others find 2-3 sessions per week work best for them.

If you’re new to red light therapy, experts suggest starting with 2-4 sessions per week to give your cells time to adjust. Then, you can gradually increase the session time and frequency.

Can You Overuse Red Light Therapy?
